Sub-Regional Workshop: Hazardous Waste Management & Emergency Response

This year, the Sub-Regional Workshop on Hazardous Wastes & Chemicals Emergencies is held in Indonesia, Hotel Nuanza and EJIP Center as a collaboration between BRSC, UNEP/OCHA JEU, KLHK, PPLI, EJIP last week, (14-17 October 2024).
Experts, 25 government officials from Asia-Pacific regions, 10 representatives from Bekasi Regency Industrial Park Management and more than 50 environmental PICs gathered at EJIP to share and exchange on hazardous waste preparedness and international and regional response mechanisms.
The workshop covered a range of topics essential for effective emergency response to hazardous chemicals and wastes, such as international and regional response mechanisms, chemical emergency preparedness, contingency planning, development of prevention and preparedness plans, tools and guidelines, major sources of disaster waste.
On the afternoon of the third day, the representatives will observe an emergency simulation conducted by EJIP Environmental Emergency Response Team (EERT) and PPLI. In the simulation, EJIP and PPLI demonstrated the procedures of handling huge chemical spill from the response of company's internal team, EJIP Fire Fighter Team, EJIP EERT and PPLI team. All participants were enthusiastic and took group pictures with the simulation team members.
On the last day, the workshop covered case studies and participants' experiences in emergencies. The workshop ended with evaluations, awarding certificates to the participants, and a closing ceremony.
